Formal Updos
The French twist is a perfect example of a formal updo because they are sleek, and classically beautiful.
Here are four simple steps that you can follow to get your very own formal French twist updo.
- First, start off by slicking your hair back with gel, then part your hair on the side for a more trendy look. You can also smooth all of your hair back for a more classical look.
- Pull all of your hair down to the back of your neck and twist it. If your hair is really thin or silky it would be easier for you to get help from a ‘hair rat’ or a French hair roller, which are simply nylon mesh hair forms. You simply wrap your hair around the form, roll it, and secure the hair with pins.
- Now pin the twist into place making sure that you use enough pins so that your hair won’t come undone out of the twist.
- Spray the hair and you’ve got yourself a French twist formal updo.
Another very formal updo is the Chignon, or ‘soft bun’. This style is a easy, classic and very elegant hairstyle for those of you with medium to long hair. The way to achieve this classy formal updo is simple. The hardest part is deciding where to part your hair. Once you have decided, follow these steps:
- Gather your hair into a low ponytail at the base of the neck.
- Get some styling gel and apply it to the ponytail to keep it manageable, then twist the hair in the ponytail.
- Wrap the hair of the ponytail around the base of the ponytail itself creating a bun, and secure it with pins or another ponytail holder, or even better, use both pins and a ponytail holder to secure the bun.
- Finally spray the hair with hairspray to keep your formal updo in place.
If you have curly hair, or would like a curl type of formal chignon updo hairstyle, then try this:
- Put styling gel into damp hair and blow dry until hair is completely dry. Then curl the hair with either a curling iron, or rollers.
- Smooth over your hair with pomade to get rid of any flyaway hairs, and smooth the hair into a low ponytail on the back of your neck.
- Roll one inch pieces of your hair around two fingers and use hair pins to secure each curl to your head. When finished, spray your chignon updo with hairspray and you’ve got a finished curly chignon formal updo.
